Are you feeling stuck? Like you're constantly scrolling, swiping, and liking, but never truly moving forward? Your English is not improving. You are distracted 24/7. You can’t stay focused on a task for more than 20 seconds.

Sorry to say this, but your attention is controlled by social media.
YOU are not in control of your life.
Social media has controlled you.

Your attention is the most valuable asset and you have given it to Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. You have given your attention to short-term highs.

This is why you are stuck.

Behold the power of beehiiv

This newsletter? It’s powered by the platform built for growth, monetization, and jaw-droppingly good reader experiences.

From sponsorships that actually pay you fairly to referral programs that grow your list on autopilot, beehiiv gives publishers, creators, and writers the tools to grow their newsletter like never before. And yeah, it is just that easy.

In a world designed for passive consumption, it’s easy to become a spectator in your own life. A watcher. Just sitting and watching.
Laying down and bed and scrolling on our phone.
We've become "Generation Viewers and Watchers,"
consuming, watching content with surface-level engagement and fleeting entertainment. Just watching stuff that makes you laugh.

But what if I told you that
there’s nothing wrong with you.

If you stick around until the end,
I will tell you what is the reason you are stuck and how to fix that.

How to fix your focus.
How to get your attention back.
How to get your life back, IF YOU START APPLYING what you are about to learn…

Because true growth, deep learning, and meaningful connection needs something more.

They need “movement”, not just physical movement, but a conscious, deliberate effort to break free from LAZINESS.

On today's episode on The English Zone newsletter,
I’m going to talk about how to break free from laziness and how to start moving.
Because, being lazy is the worst state you can ever be in.

Now on the other side of the coin, there’s movement.

And there is growth in movement.
You can’t grow if you don’t move.
You have to physically move to get results.

This is what is happening in today’s society.

We are becoming Generation Viewers and Watchers;
We are going away from thinking and moving.

We are just watching.

We should call this Generation “Generation Like, Scroll Skip, and Swipe.”

Social media is designed in a way that you can stay on it the longest time with
the least amount of effort. You only need to use two things:
1. your thumb (your finger) and
2. your eyes.

Not your hand; your thumb; just one finger.

The truth is: Only those who move can start a movement.
A movement within themselves to activate one within others.

“Moving with purpose”

So in today’s newsletter on The English Zone, I’m going to tell you the dangers of not making a mental, physical, and spiritual effort in your life.

Because being a lazy person is literally
the worst decision you can ever make in your life.

Let’s look at the way social media is designed.

You see a post.

Your mind creates an emotion about the post.
If you like the post, whether a video or a photo,
There’s a little cute heart ♡ emoji that you can hit that turns red ♥️

By doing this, you expressed an opinion, conveyed a message.

While, it’s true when communicating with close friends, family and loving a photo or post they shared.

But there’s really not much effort behind the action.

I mean, there’s barely any action.

You just pressed a button.
Now, think about today’s generation.
The generation of emotions, likes, dislikes, swipes and skips.
No deep connection; no deep learning.
You can’t learn anything by only viewing it.

You can’t build any connection or friendship by simply following someone on social media or sending a friend request.

YOU HAVE TO MAKE AN EFFORT!

No movement; no effort; no results.

As an English learner, you cannot improve your English without making a conscious effort, without really trying to learn and practicing the language.

In other words, watching a 1 minute video will not make you fluent in English.

There are three different kinds of content on social media today:

  1. Short-form content (30 second to 2 minute videos or 1-3 sentence posts)
You can usually see this type of content on Tiktok, Instagram, and YouTube shorts

  2. Medium-form content (longer videos or posts) | This type of content is more common on Facebook, Threads and sometimes on Instagram through longer 3-5 minute videos or slides (carousels) that you can swipe through to see.

  3. Long-form content (5 minute to 1+ hour content) | This is more popular on YouTube, newsletter, websites like Ted.com, online courses and training.
And of course BOOKS! Books are the best kind of content.

You want to know which one of these forms is the best and most effective way to improve your English skills, and really any other skill?

You guessed it!

The 3rd type:

The first one, short-form 30 second videos? Not good.

You don’t learn much through this type of content.

It’s a good way to learn about a new place, a new idea or topic, a new person, etc.

But it’s not a good way to learn anything deeply.

The second type of content, it’s somewhat good. But still, not much deep learning happens through 2 or 3 minute videos because the problem is right after you finish, you swipe to the next video which is going to be a completely different topic or idea which will make you have a completely different feeling or emotion and you will have a completely different reaction.

Basically, you are not in control of your emotions when you are swiping through social media. You think you are, but I'm telling you are not.
If you think you are in control, then why don’t you immediately go to the gym when you see a video that motivates you to hit the gym and get healthy.

You stay because you are not in control. Sorry, but it’s a fact.

Now, the 3rd type of content is the way to go.
YouTube videos
Newsletters
Books

While most of your friends are busying themselves with the first and second type of content, be different; choose the 3rd type and start a movement from within yourself.

Start learning deeply; Master a skill!

It would be better if you wrote a comment on someone’s post if you learned something from it.

Much better if you click on the link and watch the longer video.

Even better if you put your phone away and read for 30 minutes non-stop, take notes and write a short summary.

There’s a saying in Arabic "في الحركة بركة"

Translation: in movement there’s blessing

In movement there’s blessing.

There’s blessing in moving and being active.

This does not just refer to the physical movement of exercise;

This also refers to our movement in life:
Being productive
Being proactive
Being a problem solver

When there’s opportunity for growth, you are ready to make a move

When there’s a job opportunity or a promotion opportunity, you are ready to take action and get it.

I get a lot of messages on Instagram, people filling out forms, asking questions about my services, signing up for my classes.

What if I just sit here and not respond? Nothing will happen.

 "في الحركة بركة"

I have to make a move. I have to take action.

The same is true for you.

You have to make a move about your life.
Otherwise, the time will run out and you won’t get anything.

Do you want to improve your life? Good. Make a move. There’s a blessing in movement.
Do you want to improve your English skills? Awesome, make a move.

There’s blessing in movement.

Most of you don’t realize this, the reason you are not growing is because you don’t want to.

Growth comes with responsibility.

And you don’t want to deal with responsibility.

Dealing with responsibilities is not for lazy people.

It requires you to move.

You have to be careful though, because you want to make sure you are moving
in the right direction.

We’re talking about making sound movements.
Movements that will take you to new heights of greatness.

Remember what I said in the beginning?

“Movement with purpose.”
“Movement with intention.”
“Movement in a way that produces growth, good results to help you get to a better and higher level.

If we don’t move with purpose, then there’s no difference between us and animals.
We’ll be wandering around the plains and blindlessly and aimlessly with
no mental growth, no physical growth and

There will be no barakah/blessing in our movement.
